2010 December Adoptions

Bristol - adopted 12/28/2010
Bristol came to us from Hastings, Nebraska after a very tragic loss to her previous family...  Bristol's owner actually died and she found herself homeless at 6-7 months of age.  Thank you to the great volunteers who fostered her, transported her, and helped get her vetting done while we worked through the holiday season in an effort to save her

Preston - adopted 12/26/2010
Preston is coming to us from a very-high kill shelter in Denton, Texas.  He was on the very urgent list as he was in the next group to die.  Thank you to Ken & Craig, volunteers with Pilots N' Paws for helping get her here!
Preston has adjusted to foster-life very well and loves his crate now!  Not to mention his dog bed!

Whisper - adopted 12/25/2010
The W babies were born to Willow, a rescue dog pulled by a MHLRM volunteer out of a pound in Houston, TX that was ready to pup with puppies.  After 4.5 weeks in foster care in Texas, the W family headed to Colorado...  These babies were very lucky their momma wasn't put to sleep while she was expecting or that they were born in a shelter - they never would have survived.

Paisley - adopted 12/24/2010
Paisley came from an Indian Reservation in South Dakota and what a story she has...  There is a group that goes up to this particular reservation in South Dakota from Oklahoma three times a year to perform as many spays and neuters as possible on all the stray and starving dogs and cats on the property.  The tribe has a very strict rule that without an "owner surrender" agreement animals can not be removed from the reservation's property.  So most of the dogs and cats that are fixed during their trip up there are put back on the streets to fend for themselves.  Many of the dogs don't live past the age of three according to the volunteers that go up there.  Many of these dogs suffer from disease, neglect, starvation, and abuse.

Paisley was picked up by the spay/neuter clinic as she has been living under a woman's deck.  The woman told the group to take her and that she didn't want the dog and it wasn't hers but that did serve as an "owner surrender".  Because the group was given permission, the took Paisley off the reservation!  Paisley got fixed and finally got some regular meals from one of the groups volunteers that lived in North Eastern Nebraska.  That volunteer found us and Paisley is now in Colorado!

Paisley is in rough shape to say the least right now.  She has lived on her own, had two if not three litters of puppies, and has never gotten true proper dog nutrition.  She is now just getting to know what the finer things in life are for a domestic dog!  She has gotten a bath, is getting regular meals, and we have even gotten a clean bill of health on her.  We just have to support her and give her "good groceries" to help her skin repair from the long and hard 18 months she had on the reservation.

Paisley is now in foster care learning what it is like to be a domestic dog!  But thank you to the Divine Canine of Louisville for giving Paisley a place to sleep while she found a great foster home!

Trouper - adopted 12/04/2010
Trouper and her family came to us from Chatsworth County Georgia.  We found out about her on a very urgent email and after puling hair and teeth, we were able to find help and get Trouper an her family out of the kill shelter.  The shelter actually HELD the family PAST their scheduled euthanasia because they knew we were trying so hard.  The family's transport to Colorado was also less than two weeks which was very surprising.  Trouper was an amazing momma but seems to be happy the babies are not bugging her too much any more.

Xavier - adopted 12/02/2010
Xavier's story is beyond sad.  He suffered an injury that required surgery the night of 11/7/2010 and his family took him in to get treatment and upon the discovery of how bad the cuts were to his leg, they contemplated euthanasia because they simply couldn't' afford the cost of surgery.  Xavier's family had just filed for bankruptcy.  The emergency vet couldn't allow for a great dog such as him to be put down because of cost, and convinced the family to relinquish ownership of Xavier to the hospital.  That doc then contacted MHLRM and we agreed to pay Xavier's surgery costs and have a wonderful foster for him in Ft. Collins that will take wonderful care of him and take him for his bandage and cast changes.  Xavier's new forever family will have to know the next six weeks of surgery recovery will be in a cast.  MHRLM will cover all his surgery related expenses and treatments and he is expected to make a full recover soon.  Xavier happens to be MHLRM's FIRST Colorado rescue dog.
